We got fed up of standing in crowded elevators watching them stop at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors. Every day, the stairs sat lonely, unwanted, ignored and unloved. So, in order to give them some lovin’, we created UTS stickers to encourage people to Use the Stairs. Our stickers are finding welcoming staircases all over the world and we won’t stop until every step has a sticker or it’s time for some tea.
Who we are is an Irishman, an American and a Taiwanese, who enjoy creating businesses that benefit mankind in some small way while making a wee profit. We’re not quite the megalomaniacs the first paragraph paints us as, but we do want to get people going up and down those unloved staircases, will you help us?
CTO & Co-founder – Ben Hays
When not climbing stairs, Ben spends his time working as a web developer and photographer. Currently based in Taipei, Taiwan, he once tried to climb down the stairs at the Taipei 101 before a security guard stopped him at the 84th floor.
Business Development & Co-founder – Duncan Murtagh
An experienced cubicle warrior and stairs pounder-upper, Duncan has worked in offices from Ireland (愛爾蘭) to Boston and now, to Taipei, where he arrived four years ago to study Mandarin and spread the Use The Stairs mantra in Chinese.
Business Development & Procurement – Kathy Tseng
Fluent in English, German, Taiwanese and Mandarin, sales and marketing specialist Kathy can harass people into using the stairs in four different languages and often does. Kathy also runs a menu translation ( 菜單翻譯 ) service.
